Michael's Room

By Terence Anthony

I stood outside the door of Michael's room today, And just for one brief moment thought I heard him say; Come on in, the door is always open, And there's something that I've been meaning to say. But when I turned the handle, there was no one there, Just the silence and the shadows and the empty chair; And all the things he left behind, To remind me of the times we used to share. And it's hard to understand, How things can change so fast; And all those precious moments, Now belong to the past. But somewhere in the stillness of Michael's room today, I caught a little echo of the things he used to say; And I know that he is with me, In his own special way.
